Leadership Development

Program Overview

The Leadership Development Series, composed of one-day hands-on workshops, is designed to provide supervisors, managers and team leaders with crucial insights into building and supporting high functioning teams.  Each workshop concentrates on a critical performance requirement for today’s leader to help them overcome the fierce challenges their organization may face.  Upon completion of the program, these leaders will  be better equipped to make an immediate impact and contribute more widely across their organization.

 The Leadership Development workshop series includes:

Format

Participants may register for any number of workshops in any order.  However, we strongly recommend that the entire program be completed to maximize development of leadership skills.

Certificate Option
Twelve workshops to be taken within a 3-year period.  Each workshop is offered at least 3 times per year.  We recommend starting the Series with workshop #1, The Challenge of Leadership.

Cost

$695 per workshop

This program has been approved by the New Jersey Department of Labor for workforce training grants. Funding may be available for those receiving unemployment benefits. Contact us for more information.

 

Who Should Attend

This Leadership Development Series is designed for professionals with supervisory, management and/or team leader responsibilities or those who will take on these responsibilities in the near future. The workshops in the series are also highly relevant for seasoned supervisors/team leaders who have extensive on-the-job experience, but little formal management education or training. If you are in a leadership role, seeking or anticipating a leadership role, or are an individual contributor looking to develop your leadership competencies – this program is for you!

Workshops include:

THE CHALLENGE OF LEADERSHIP
Master skills to deliver results
The role of the leader has become increasingly complex and difficult. Successful leaders must be able to engage their staff to build an effective, highly motivated, innovative team that delivers results – even during uncertain and changing times. Supervisors and team leaders must master critical leadership techniques to make a successful transition to the roles of coach, teacher, and motivator. This workshop provides insights and tools needed to optimize both individual and unit performance. Participants will also assess their strengths and growth opportunities to create an action plan to improve their competencies.

ALIGNING PLANNING, GOAL SETTING AND PERFORMANCE PRIORITIES WITH STRATEGIC GOALS
Use your time and resources strategically
The ability to establish performance priorities, set goals, and write results-focused plans is critical in today’s world of organizational downsizing, restructuring, and culture change. This workshop will build participants’ skills for making fuller and more effective use of time, unit, and organizational resources by concentrating on performance priorities and gaining buy-in.

COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES FOR THE EFFECTIVE LEADER
Gather and share information effectively
Effective communication builds and maintains relationships, processes, and systems. This workshop explores the gateways and barriers to proficient communication and interpersonal skills. It also teaches the relationship between information and power, and helps participants assess their own style of communication and listening. Discussion will include the influence of personality types on relating to others.

BUILDING AND LEADING HIGH PERFORMANCE TEAMS
Transform employees into owners of the organization’s success
Empowerment and collaboration can play powerful roles in improving an organization’s performance. Leaders need the tools and training to move from manager to collaborator/ enabler. This workshop will cover the essential elements of team development and the teambuilding process, the many roles team members play, factors which contribute to winning teams, group decision-making, putting team building theory into practice, and the detrimental effects of internal competition on achieving organizational goals.

MOTIVATION AND LEADERSHIP:  UNDERSTANDING AND  INFLUENCING PEOPLE AT WORK
Enhance job ownership and performance
This workshop is intended to help participants develop a greater understanding of how human needs, supervision, job characteristics, work environment, and external constraints influence workplace behaviors, and of their own leadership preferences, as well as increased awareness of alternative leadership styles and behaviors, and the ability to determine and implement appropriate leadership interventions.

COACHING AND MANAGING EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE
Help your workforce meet performance expectations
This workshop covers the skills needed to effectively communicate performance expectations, provide feedback and training, and determine the source of performance problems. It will also cover methods for dealing with difficult employees and the legal pitfalls associated with termination.

ELEVATING EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE THROUGH TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
Train employees to assume new responsibilities
This workshop provides both the understanding and tools necessary to successfully help employees improve their performance and equip them to take on new tasks and responsibilities.

MANAGING AND RESOLVING CONFLICT IN THE WORKPLACE
Identify and resolve conflicts constructively
Conflict, when not handled constructively, can erode morale and performance. This workshop will teach participants to diagnose workplace conflicts, avoid destructive communication, identify situational causes of conflict, and assess personal strengths and developmental needs in determining the best approach to managing conflict.

STRATEGIC PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING
Promote and implement creative problem solving strategies
Workplace problems must be resolved effectively to avoid negative impact on the business, such as stress, wasted resources, and other counterproductive consequences. In this workshop, participants will learn proven
techniques for solving problems efficiently and creatively, as well as how to present and promote the acceptance of problem-solving strategies by employees and management peers.

LEGAL ISSUES FOR TODAY'S LEADER
Avoid costly litigation and legal judgments
Each year, costly litigation and legal judgments take their toll on the workplace. This workshop offers a common sense approach with a current events theme to create a positive employee relations environment, reduce workplace tensions, and decrease both company and personal legal liability.

IMPLEMENTING ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE
Develop strategies to deal with resistance to change
This workshop will focus on the critical success factors for implementing organizational change such as establishing the vision of a change effort, exploring different strategies for dealing with resistance to change, and discussing how to develop an effective communication strategy to plan and implement a change initiative in an organization in the most positive and constructive manner.

THE STRATEGIC CONTEXT OF LEADERSHIP
Develop process-improving strategies that satisfy multiple stakeholders
This workshop will demonstrate how effective leaders need to develop and deploy objectives and strategies at all levels. Participants will gain an understanding of the importance of processes within the organization, and how to effectively diagnose and continuously improve critical business processes. The financial impact of strategies and process improvement initiatives will also be explored.
